1.   Set a consistent time when homework will be done each night.

2.   Provide a suitable environment for completing homework.

3.   Remove distractions.

4.   Be available to help your child with homework.

5.   Talk to your children about what they are learning in school.

6.   Read together with younger children.

7.   Help your child learn organizational skills.

8.   Ensure that your child has the required materials to complete homework.

9.   Ensure a balance between homework and other activities.

10. Encourage your children to help you with reading and writing activities.
(recipes, newspapers, shopping lists, letters, thank-you notes, etc.)

11. Encourage your children to ask the teacher for help if they find the work difficult or confusing.

12. Keep in touch with your child’s teacher and all if you have questions or concerns.

13. Monitor homework assignments and check that homework is completed.

14. Observe your child’s style of learning and try to understand how he or she works best (for instance, by using visual aids, by reading material aloud or by manipulating materials)

15. Praise and encourage your child.
