Advanced Placement Calculus AB

The Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus course is a specialized Grade 12 Mathematics program that allows secondary students to earn a Year 1 university Calculus credit while still in high school. The AP Calculus course is offered to students who show significant and considerable aptitude in Mathematics and meet the required course selection criteria.

AP Calculus AB is a full year course that is offered at Cathedral High School. Upon successful completion of the program, participating students will receive their Grade 12 Calculus mathematics credit and have the option of writing the AP exam to receive their Year 1 Calculus university credit from universities which recognize AP designations.

The benefits are multi-fold: students who choose to write the AP exam can lighten their year 1 university course load or fill the spot with another course of interest. For students who do not choose to write the AP exam, they benefit from learning the content of their Year 1 Calculus course thereby increasing the opportunity to achieve a higher mark, as well as from more personalized instruction due to the smaller class size at Cathedral.

Participation in this program is restricted to the top 20 mathematics students in the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board.
