E-Learning Program

As of 2010, students have the option of learning online. E-Learning programs have many benefits: e-Learning not only allows secondary schools to expand program pathway offerings, but also enables them to offer unique and specialty courses, provide important experiential opportunities to engage the 21st century learner, and address different learning styles.

Membership in the Ontario Catholic e-Learning Consortium provides equity of access for Catholic secondary students to take secondary credits developed and taught by Catholic teachers. These online programs ensure that Catholic graduate expectations, daily prayer and liturgical references and celebrations are integrated into lesson plans.

Although the preferred mode of curriculum instruction is face-to-face, teacher/pupil instruction, the board recognizes that in specific circumstances, e-Learning does serve the needs of students within the board. These specific circumstances may include a timetable conflict, a credit deficiency, course unavailability, illness, or a learning disability, which precludes the student from taking the course in the regular day slot. The program has also been found useful in re-engaging students over 18 who left school prior to obtaining their OSSD.

The program is offered in three delivery modes: a blended model which combines face-to-face and distance learning; a synchronous model, a blended model which is delivered in real time; and an a-synchronous model which is delivered completely online.
