The Student Services Department is made up of four sections:
Psychoeducational Services
Social Work Services
Special Education Services
Speech, Language & Hearing Services
These four sections are coordinated by the Principal of Programs - Special Education and Vice-Principal of Programs - Special Education. Psychoeducational Services are supervised by the Board Psychologist and include Resource Teachers - Learning Disabilities. Social Work Services are coordinated by the Social Work Supervisor and include Social Workers. The Special Education Services Section includes: Resource Teachers for Behaviour, Developmental Disabilities, Gifted & Talented, Visually Impaired, Deaf/Blind, and Autism/PDD; a Transition Coordinator/Facilitator; Educational Assistants - Behaviour; Job Coaches; and Braille Transcribers. The Speech, Language and Hearing Services Section is supervised by a Speech Pathologist and includes Speech-Language Pathologists, Resource Teachers - Deaf & Hard of Hearing, an Audiologist, Educational Assistants - Augmentative Communication and Speech-Language, and a Computer Technician.
All of these people provide services to exceptional pupils within our Board. The provision of special education programs and services with the Board is inclusionary in nature, that is, the focus is on providing these programs and services within the context of the regular classroom setting.
