The St. Joachim Jaguars three-peated as Senior A champions at the Daryl Mahler Memorial 3 on 3 Hockey Challenge held at the Mohawk Sports Arena on Wednesday March 7th.
The tournament is hosted by Cathedral High School twice yearly to honour Daryl Mahler, a former student and hockey player and St. Catharines high school teacher who was killed in a car accident at age 48.
St. Joachim once again went undefeated winning the Senior A Championship game against Holy Name of Mary 11 to 1. Brett Fullerton played well in goal as St. Joachim outscored their opposition 84 to 9 in the six games. Tessa Holk and Jenna Duarte provided excellent two-way play. Adam Mahler, nephew of Daryl, led St. Joachim in goals, assists, and along with Holk and Duarte, put on a clinic in puck possession time.
Other team members included Ryan Carson, Thomas Horan, Nick Kenny, Cody Brohman, Rachel McIntyre, and Madison Fonseca
Jeff Toole (cousin of Daryl), Adam Mahler (son of Daryl), and Bently Mahler (eldest grandson of Daryl) were on hand to present the championship medals and trophy in an emotional farewell as Adam won the A Division Championship for the sixth consecutive time in this his last Daryl Mahler Memorial.
