MORE girls take first place in cheer competition

St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School wins for school spirit.

The school's Cheer Team recently traveled to Brampton to compete in the Ontario Cheer Federation's Ontario Challenge where they received first place in the "Varsity Large Tumbling Novice" category.

Under the direction of teachers Daniela Pearson, Tania Grahn and Nella Manchisi, MORE Cheer consists of 35 students, ranging from Grades 9 to 12+.

"We began competing last year," said Pearson. We've done four competitions so far and received first place in all four."

However, more than its titles, the team gives members life-long skills.

"Many parents have approached me to thank me for the self-confidence, leadership and friendship cheer has offered their daughters. They tell me how it's been an invaluable experience for them through their high school career."

"I truly am so very proud of what the girls have accomplished over the last four years and how we've grown both athletically and emotionally as a team. We really are a cheer family."
