Riding the bus for the first time can be exciting, but for some students and parents, it can also be an anxious time.
The First Rider Program, sponsored by Hamilton-Wentworth Student Transportation Services and delivered by the various bus carriers, is a workshop specially designed to introduce JK and SK students and their parents to the school bus environment and to familiarize them with school bus rules.
Held at various locations throughout the region, the sessions are 45 minutes in duration, and include a video on bus safety, followed by question & answer period. Students then go out to a real school bus where they go on a ride with their parents. Once the ride is over, the driver shows the students and parents all the safety features on the bus. Students are given an information package with a certificate with their name on it.
Sessions take place from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the following locations:
Helen Detwiler School – 320 Brigade Drive, Hamilton
St. Francis Xavier School – 298 Highway 8, Stoney Creek
