There are no limits to what we can do. That was the thrust of a presentation by Robert Pio Hajjar to educators and Special Education Resource Teachers at a mini conference hosted by the Council for Exception Children Hamilton-Wentworth Chapter 289 on November 27.
Pio Hajjar knows of what he speaks. Born with Down syndrome, Pio Hajjar discovered early in life that “the cards that were dealt to me in life are not as important as how I play them.”
Today Pio Hajjar is a much sought-after, gifted and professional motivational speaker who empowers champions of inclusion worldwide with his message, “I Can, You Can.”
His presentation in Hamilton had everyone on their feet both literally and figuratively.
“Robert’s message of hope, acceptance and self-determination flowed through the room and created such a powerful vibe,” said Maria Trotta, a teacher with the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board and President of the CEC Hamilton Chapter.
“He truly is a voice for his peers that cannot speak and empowers champions of inclusion and change. As Robert says, ‘if I can, you can too”!
It was an important message for educators, especially this year when the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board celebrates its 50th anniversary of “Each Belongs.”
