Two individuals have been selected to receive the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board’s highest honour, the Award of Merit for Distinguished Service to Catholic Education. The award honours individuals and groups who have contributed to Catholic education in a significant and special way.
This year’s recipients of the Award for Distinguished Service to Catholic Education are: Manuel Madaleno,
a dedicated and long-serving Custodian at St. Lawrence Catholic Elementary School whose tireless work, attention to detail and commitment to the well-being of students, staff and parents, has set the gold standard for school maintenance and care. Beyond his remarkable efforts to keep the school clean and safe, his goodness and tremendous example contribute significantly to the building of Catholic Christian community. Josie Pini
, a retired elementary school Principal, who, for over 30 years, has inspired students, parents and staff through her professional and warm demeanour, genuine caring approach, thoughtful mediation techniques, and gentle humour and positive approach to life. She is a dedicated educator who motivates her students to achieve their full potential. In retirement, Josie coordinates a Tutor Supports Program aimed at reducing the learning loss.
“Both of these remarkable individuals have served Catholic education in immeasurable ways,” says Chairperson Patrick Daly. “This awards ceremony is an opportunity for us, as a Catholic community, to acknowledge their significant achievements and thank them for their dedication and commitment to our Catholic school system.” An Awards Mass and Presentation Ceremony will take place on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
