Annunciation of Our Lord lights Christmas Tree of Hope in support of St. Vincent de Paul Society

What is hope?

At Annunciation of Our Lord Catholic Elementary, hope comes in the form of thousands of pounds of food donations to help feed those in need within the Hamilton community.

Organized by teachers Marisa Spinosa, Marcello Gervasi and Larry Finocchi, along with grade 8 students, the school kicked off its annual Christmas Tree of Hope Campaign in support of the St. Vincent de Paul Society on November 28.

The campaign, which began over a decade ago, involves students and their families collecting non-perishable food items in exchange for an ornament on the school tree. At the end of the campaign, students can bring their ornament home to add hope to their Christmas tree.

Since its inception, the school has collected over 30,000 lbs of food.

“During the season of hope, we, as merchants of hope, are called by God to help others,” said Principal Dean Younger.

“That simple call to help those in need...all of us can do it. As merchants of hope, and missionaries of joy, we can make this world a better place for everyone.”
