We regret to announce the death of Don Mahinda Athulathmudali on Friday, August 13th, 2021. Don was the husband of Yolande Athulathmudali, retired Assistant to the Principal with the Board. Anna was the mother of Frank DeSimone, Day Custodian at Canadian Martyrs’ Catholic Elementary School and Teresa Pellegrino, Attendance Secretary at St. John Henry Newman Catholic Secondary School. She was also the mother-in-law of Angela DeSimone, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent of Human Resources and grandmother of Daniel Filice and Nicholas Pellegrino, Occasional Teachers. Anna was also a retired Assistant Custodian. Frank (Francis Daniel) McCarvell

We regret to announce the death of Frank (Francis Daniel) McCarvell on Sunday, February 28, 2021. Frank was the father of Paula Fabris, Teacher at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Elementary School and father-in-law of Deris Fabris, Central Resource Teacher at the Nicholas Mancini Centre. He was also the husband of Rhoda McCarvell, retired Administrative Assistant to Superintendent of Education. Due to current COVID restrictions, a private family visitation will take place on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Bay Gardens Funeral Home and a funeral will take place on Thursday March 4, 2021.

Marie Claybourne

We regret to announce the death of Marie Claybourne on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. Marie was the mother of Connie Claybourne-Lake, Teacher at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Elementary School. Funeral services have already taken place on Thursday February 25, 2021.

Lidia Papaianni

We regret to announce the death of Lidia Papaianni on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 in Edmonton, Alberta. Lidia was the mother of Angela Fortino, Secretary at St. Augustine Catholic Elementary School. She was also the grandmother of Ann Marie Fortino, Guidance Secretary at St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School and Jennifer Fortino, Social Worker at Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary School. Funeral arrangements are taking place in Edmonton and a Memorial Mass will take place in Hamilton at a later date.

Donato Tortis

We regret to announce the death of Donato Tortis on Friday, February 12, 2021. Donato was the father of Vince Tortis, Vice-Principal at St. John Henry Newman Catholic Secondary School, father-in-law of Patricia Valeri Tortis, Teacher at Cathedral High School. Due to the current COVID restrictions, a private family funeral and entombment will take place on Wednesday, February 17, 2021. Brian Sinkins

We regret to announce the death of Brian Sinkins, on Monday, February 8, 2021 in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Brian was the father of Melanie Burnip, Speech Language Pathologist at the Nicholas Mancini Centre. Doris Mary Goodwin

We regret to announce the death of Doris Mary Goodwin on Saturday, January 9, 2021. Doris was the mother of Karen Moyer, Principal – Elementary Virtual School, Patricia Amos - former Director of Education and Robert Goodwin - former Principal of Continuing Education. She was also the mother-in-law of Angela Goodwin - Instructor at St. Charles Continuing Education and grandmother of Brenna Goodwin, Guidance Secretary at St. Jean de Brebeuf Catholic Secondary School. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, a private visitation will be held and a funeral mass will take place at a future date. We regret to announce the death of Jo Ann Devlin on Friday, December 18, 2020. Jo Anne was an Educational Assistant at Bishop Tonnos Catholic Secondary School. Paul Hansen

We regret to announce the death of Paul Hansen on Sunday, December 13, 2020. Paul was the brother of David Hansen, Director of Education. A Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday December 17, 2020 at 11:30 a.m., at Annunciation of Our Lord Parish (280 Limeridge Road W, Hamilton). A private cremation will follow. Due to current COVID regulations, registering for the Funeral Mass is mandatory and all guests must wear a mask.

Francis (Frank) O'Meara

We regret to announce the death of Francis (Frank) O'Meara on Friday December 4, 2020. Frank was the father of John O'Meara, Manager of Maintenance and Renewal Services. He was also father-in-law to Carolyn O'Meara, Continuing Education/Benefits & Pension Officer, Michel Derikx, French at the Virtual School and grandfather of Sarah Hastings, Secretary at St Bernadette Catholic Elementary School. Due to the on-going pandemic, there will be no visitation and a limited funeral service will be held this week. Sometime next year, the family will intern Frank and his wife Elma at a private family service. Donations in Frank’s memory to his favourite charity, The Good Shepherd Centres, would be appreciated by the family.
