Last week, kindergarten students at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Elementary School delighted in their final "Snuggle Up and Read Day" of the school year. This special day encourages families to prioritize reading and literacy activities together. Students donned cozy clothes or pajamas and spent quality time with their favorite books, fostering a fun and engaging reading environment alongside parents or reading buddies from higher grades.
The highlight of the day was when Ms. Lane read a book she authored, titled "I'm a Book Dragon." This inspiring session highlighted that students could aspire to be great readers and writers. A lively discussion followed, where each student imagined what type of dragon they would be. Afterward, the kindergarten students snuggled up with their reading buddies to enjoy their chosen books.
Reading is crucial for young children as it develops cognitive and language skills, stimulates imagination, and broadens their understanding of the world. It enhances vocabulary, fosters communication, and nurtures a love for learning. Through stories, children gain empathy and social awareness, supporting academic success and lifelong learning habits.
This event not only emphasized the importance of literacy but also created a memorable and joyful experience for all involved.
