Each year, the Catholic Principals' Council of Ontario (CPCO) recognizes administrators, Catholic partners and other influential members of the Catholic community who have made outstanding contributions to Catholic education, CPCO and their respective school boards. Among these prestigious honours is the Distinguished Service Award, which acknowledges Practicing Associates who have demonstrated exceptional service to the CPCO membership.

This year, Flora Nordoff has been named as the distinguished recipient, a recognition of her unwavering dedication and exemplary leadership in Catholic education.

“Flora is, and always has been, an inspiration and model of Catholic servant leadership for so many of us,” said Director of Education David Hansen.

With over 20 years of experience as a Vice Principal and Principal, Nordoff has been at the forefront of innovative educational practices. She was a pioneer in implementing Restorative Practices within her school over two decades ago, later expanding this initiative board-wide. Through her guidance, Restorative Practices continues to be an integral component of the bullying strategy at the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board, positively impacting countless students, staff and community members.

“Her compassion for those she encounters, be it a student, a colleague or a parent, is at the heart of her leadership. I am honoured to call her a colleague and friend and can think of no one more deserving of the CPCO Distinguished Service Award! She is a blessing for our school system.”

Also reflecting on her impact, nominator Principal Marc Trotta added, “I have always found her to be an exceptional Catholic leader and system thinker.”

“Flora has dedicated many years to the service of students, staff, and our system, and I believe that she personifies excellence in her very distinguished career.”

Beyond her school leadership, Nordoff has been an instrumental figure within the Hamilton chapter of CPCO. Serving in various executive roles, including two terms as President, she played a crucial role in strengthening relationships between Vice Principals, Principals and Senior Administration. She has also actively participated in multiple negotiation rounds, advocating for improved agreements for school administrators.

“I am deeply honoured and humbled to receive this award,” said Nordoff.

“It is truly a privilege to be recognized, but I know this reflects the collective efforts of the incredible people I've had the joy to work with. This award belongs to all of us, and I am profoundly grateful for the support, collaboration and inspiration I've received along the way. This recognition is a reminder to the strength of our team at HWCDSB and our shared commitment to making a meaningful difference and to placing Christ at the centre of all our relationships.”

Currently serving as the Administrator of Human Resources – a newly established role in the HWCDSB – Nordoff continues to make a significant impact, noted Trotta.

Her commitment to mentoring and professional growth has revitalized leadership development opportunities, ensuring that system leaders are among the best in the province.

“She has been a strong voice at the system table and is focused on making the leaders in our system among the best in the province.”

An official Gala and Awards Ceremony will take place on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at White Oaks Resort.
