FASD Awareness Day is held every year on September 9. This day is dedicated to increasing knowledge and understanding of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).

It is an opportunity for schools across the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board to support the FASD community by raising awareness, being visible, and joining the conversation. To celebrate and raise awareness, staff and students are encouraged to wear red on September 9.

Why #RedShoesRock
Red Shoes Rock began when Canadian advocate RJ Formanek, an adult living with FASD, wore red shoes to stand out and spark conversations. Today, red shoes have become a global symbol of strength and visibility, helping turn invisibility into awareness, replacing stigma with understanding, and building acceptance for individuals with FASD.

We recognize the dignity and unique gifts of each person, including those living with FASD.

Join us on September 9 by wearing red and sharing your support on social media! Share your photos using #FASDMonth & #RedShoesRock
