St. Jean de Brébeuf Catholic Secondary School Teacher Andrew Cabilan, a dedicated math teacher and martial artist, recently represented Team Canada at the World Karate Union (WKU) World Championships in Trier, Germany.
The prestigious event brought together over 2,500 competitors from more than 40 countries, all competing across a variety of martial arts disciplines. Cabilan participated in six Forms and Weapons categories, advancing to the gold medal finals in each one after the first day of competition.
By the end of the championship rounds, Cabilan earned an impressive three gold medals and three silver medals, proudly bringing them home for Team Canada. With these remarkable achievements, he has earned the opportunity to defend his titles in Abu Dhabi next August.
In addition to his recent world-level success, Cabilan currently holds several other major titles, including North American Sport Karate Association (NASKA) Overall Forms and Weapons Champion, as well as Michigan and Upstate New York State Champion in Forms.
