Mathalon Celebration at St. Marguerite d’Youville CES

There was a sense of excitement and pride in the air at St. Marguerite d’Youville Catholic Elementary School as students in a Grade 2 class and a Grade 5 class were recently recognized with Knowledgehook Mathalon medals. Faces lit up at the sight of the medals, with joy and excitement clearly evident as students celebrated a milestone that reflects perseverance, growth, and the belief that “I can do math.”
The Mathalon is designed to build confidence and foster a positive math culture, encouraging students to work steadily toward their goals. That commitment was evident not only in the students, but also in the pride shared by their teachers, who supported and guided them throughout the journey.
Presented by Superintendent of Education Brian Daly, alongside Teacher Math Facilitator Mr. Welsh and Principal Mrs. Trotta, the celebration recognized not only achievement in mathematics, but the dedication, teamwork, and resilience that led to it. Mr. Daly was met with smiles, excitement, and many high-fives from students eager to celebrate their accomplishment.
“We are proud of the students in Ms. Hunt and Ms. Togmus’ classes, who have persevered and worked together to build a positive math culture. Today was a wonderful celebration of their success,” said Mr. Brian Daly, Superintendent of Education.
This achievement is a wonderful example of the continued excellence of our students.
