National AccessAbility Week 2026

National AccessAbility Week (NAAW), which begins on the last Sunday in May each year, takes place from May 31 to June 6, 2026. It is a time to celebrate the contributions and achievements of persons with disabilities and recognize the importance of building communities where everyone feels included, supported, and valued. The week also provides an opportunity to reflect on the ongoing responsibility we all share in creating a more accessible and inclusive Canada for all.

The Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board is guided by the teachings of the Catholic Church and places priority on promoting the dignity of the human person. In all that we do, we are committed to fostering communities where every individual is recognized as a unique and valued member, deserving of respect, care, and full participation. This commitment is reflected in our Each Belongs philosophy, which affirms that all students, regardless of ability, belong in our classrooms, schools, and faith-filled learning environments.

When individuals of all abilities have equitable opportunities to contribute to their schools, communities, and workplaces, we all benefit. Inclusion strengthens our shared future.

Red Shirt Day

As part of the week’s celebrations, Red Shirt Day® (of Action for AccessAbility and Inclusion) will be observed on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. First celebrated in 2019 as an Easter Seals initiative, Red Shirt Day brings people across Canada together to wear red as a visible display of solidarity and support for persons with disabilities and their families, celebrate the achievements of disabled Canadians, and commit to helping create a fully accessible and inclusive society.

Students, staff, and families are encouraged to wear red on June 3 to help raise awareness about the importance of accessibility, inclusion, and belonging for all.
