St. John Henry Newman Hosts AgScape Career Fair for Feeder School Students
St. John Henry Newman Catholic Secondary School welcomed approximately 800 Grade 7 and 8 students from its feeder schools on May 13 and 14, 2026, for an engaging AgScape Career Fair focused on careers in agriculture and food production.
Organized in partnership with AgScape, the two-day event provided students with hands-on opportunities to explore the many career pathways connected to Ontario’s agriculture and agri-food industries. Throughout the event, students rotated through interactive booths where industry representatives led activities designed to showcase real-world skills, innovation and opportunities within the sector.
Each student group spent approximately 10 minutes at each station, learning directly from agricultural partners and professionals about the diverse roles that support food production, sustainability, technology and farming across Ontario.
Participating organizations included the Grain Farmers of Ontario, Egg Farmers of Ontario, Gay Lea Foods, 4-H Ontario, Ontario Federation of Agriculture, Dairy Farmers of Ontario and Premier Equipment. Local farmers also participated in the event, helping students gain a deeper understanding of agriculture within their own communities.
The event highlighted the importance of experiential learning by allowing students to connect classroom learning with future career possibilities in a meaningful and interactive way. Organizers also explored opportunities to bring farm equipment onsite, further enhancing the hands-on experience for students.
