Dance Fair at STOC and St. Margaret Mary

Under the leadership of Arts Integrated Teacher Tania Rihar, students from St. Teresa of Calcutta and St. Margaret Mary Catholic Elementary Schools had an opportunity to showcase their creativity, cultural awareness, and leadership through an engaging celebration of dance and heritage.
Grade 8 students presented a variety of projects exploring the history and significance of different dance styles from around the world, while junior students created informative poster displays highlighting a country of their choice and its associated dance traditions.
“At St. Teresa of Calcutta, the Grade 8's were not only presenting their research, but also tutoring classes on how to dance their researched dance style,” said Rihar.
“We had a Metis musician/dancer, Alyssa Katrine, share her talents and history of Metis culture and dance with students throughout the afternoon.”
Further East at St. Maragaret Mary, students participated in a full-day cultural learning experience. Throughout the morning, classes visited the gymnasium to explore Junior and Intermediate student projects. The day also featured a coordinated series of hands-on activities focused on Indigenous culture and dance, giving many students the opportunity to learn about powwow dancing, smoke dance traditions, bracelet making, and mini-moccasin crafting.
Both events provided students with a meaningful opportunity to celebrate diversity, deepen their understanding of cultural traditions, and learn through creativity, collaboration, and active participation.
