On April 22, we mark Earth Day, a time to reflect on our shared responsibility to care for God’s creation. In a May 2014 General Audience, Pope Francis reminded us, “We must protect creation, for it is a gift which the Lord has given us; it is God’s present to us. We are the guardians of creation.” This year’s theme of conscious consumption invites us to consider how our daily choices impact the world around us. By being mindful of how we use resources, consuming less and choosing well, we can reduce our impact on the planet while supporting a more sustainable way of living. Across the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board, this call to stewardship is reflected in the ongoing efforts of students and staff who actively participate in environmental initiatives within their schools and communities.
