On Friday, March 6, the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board observed its annual Board-wide Faith Day. This year’s theme, Catholic Education – Finding Hope in a Divided World, invited reflection on the role Catholic education plays in nurturing hope within our communities.
The day began with the celebration of the Eucharist at local parishes, strengthening the important connection between schools and parish communities. At one of the Mass celebrations, Fr. Francis Noronha, CSC, Pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, spoke about the sacred nature of Catholic education, reminding those gathered that “a school is very much like that vineyard in the Gospel. It is entrusted space — sacred space.”
Following Mass, participants gathered for fellowship and facilitated conversations, exploring both the strengths and challenges encountered in supporting Catholic education and reflecting on the many ways hope is lived out each day across schools and administrative sites.
In the afternoon, a video presentation highlighted examples of hope, kindness, and justice throughout the system, followed by opportunities for quiet reflection and conversation.
Faith Day provided a meaningful opportunity to pause, pray, and gather in community, supporting faith formation across the system and renewing a shared commitment to the mission of Catholic education and to the important work carried out each day in service of students, families, and one another.
