Great Big Crunch Kick off

Students and staff at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Elementary School gathered on March 26 to launch this year’s Great Big Crunch with a celebratory “crunch,” marking the start of this system-wide initiative focused on fresh, local food and healthy eating.

Joining the school for the kickoff were Director of Education Mr. David Hansen and Superintendent of Education Mrs. Adele Filice, alongside community partners from Tastebuds Hamilton.

Representing Drummond Farms, Mr. Drummond was also on hand, engaging with students and fielding thoughtful questions about farming, apples, and the journey of food from farm to table.

The Great Big Crunch brings students and communities together for a synchronized apple crunch, raising awareness about the value of nutritious food and its connection to student success.

Other schools and administrative buildings across the system also took part, joining in the shared moment of “crunch” and reinforcing a collective commitment to student well-being.

Tastebuds Hamilton continues to support student nutrition programs across the system.

With the continued support of FirstOntario Credit Union and Drummond Farms, schools across Hamilton will once again receive fresh, locally sourced apples to participate in this meaningful initiative.

HWCDSB looks forward to another year of participation in the Great Big Crunch, as school communities come together to celebrate healthy choices and local partnerships.
