“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” — Acts 20:35
In Haiti, Beau-Séjour, located high in the mountains, is home to St. Gabriel Parish. At St. Gabriel Parish, under the leadership of Father Jude, Catholic education continues to support the faith and learning of children and young people, and remains a vital source of hope.
During the 40 days of Lent, school communities across the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board came together to demonstrate compassion and generosity through Lenten almsgiving initiatives.
Students, staff, and families from St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Elementary School, St. Margaret Mary Catholic Elementary School, and Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Elementary School showed remarkable kindness and support through their collective efforts.
Together, these school communities raised enough funds to provide a full year of education for students in Haiti, children just their age. It is inspiring to know that just $70 can support one child’s education for an entire year, making a lasting impact on many young lives.
This spirit of giving reflects the true meaning of Lent. Through their actions, students are helping to create opportunities, inspire hope, and support a brighter future for others around the world.
“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give… for God loves a cheerful giver.” — 2 Corinthians 9:7
