The Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board recently gathered in faith to celebrate the commissioning of three newly appointed principals who will lead Catholic school communities across the Board during the 2026–2027 school year.
Surrounded by colleagues and senior administration and accompanied by the musical talents of the St. Thomas the Apostle and Guardian Angels Catholic Elementary School Choirs, Anthony Falconio, Ryan Valconi, and Sam Musa were commissioned for their leadership in Catholic education.
Joined by celebrant His Excellency, the Most Reverend Bishop Joseph Dabrowski, CSMA, the ceremony highlighted the important role principals play in shaping school communities rooted in faith, learning, and service.
Bringing greetings on behalf of the Board of Trustees, Chairperson John Valvasori extended a warm welcome to the new principals.
“Having had the opportunity to meet you and observe your dedication and leadership, I am confident you will continue the strong tradition of excellence established by those who have served before you. As we look ahead to the opportunities and challenges of the coming year, I want to express my sincere appreciation to everyone who contributes to the success of our schools.”
Drawing on the day's Gospel reading, Director of Education David Hansen reflected on the significance of the passage, "You did not choose me, but I chose you." He reminded principals that their vocation is rooted in a calling to serve others with faith, courage, and hope.
“You have been chosen to be here and lead in Catholic Education. You are hope in our schools, you are hope for the families of our schools, and you are hope for, most importantly, the students in our schools.”
The day also recognized the lasting contributions of retiring principals Dean Younger, Mario DiVittorio, and Rob Lombardi.
As the HWCDSB celebrated both the commissioning of new leaders and the legacy of those retiring, it affirmed the commitment of all principals to serving students, supporting staff, partnering with families, and fostering welcoming school communities.
