Students from St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School recently showcased their talent, dedication, and school spirit at the annual Hamilton’s Best Dance Crew competition, held at Glendale Secondary School on March 10.

The event featured dance teams from both Hamilton school boards, including Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary School, Bishop Tonnos Catholic Secondary School, Cathedral High School, and St. John Henry Newman Catholic Secondary School, with elementary schools performing on March 9.

Under the direction of Coach Tania Grahn, the STM Dance Team delivered an impressive performance, representing their school with professionalism, passion, and pride. The team entered the competition as the reigning Overall Best Newbie Dance Crew for the past two years and rose to the challenge once again.

This year, the team of 12 dancers secured the title of Overall Best Newbie Dance Crew for the third consecutive year, competing against nine schools in the newbie division.

Throughout the competition, STM dancers performed in several categories, including two large group routines in contemporary and hip hop, as well as two small group performances in the same styles. The team also showcased individual talent through two duet performances and one solo routine.

Beyond competition results, dance continues to play an important role in the students’ development, noted Grahn.

“Dance teaches them about teamwork and dedication as well as resilience. It fosters their sense of creativity and expression as individuals.”

The STM Dance Team is now preparing for its next opportunity to perform and compete at the upcoming Strive Dance Competition, scheduled for the end of April.
