St. Eugene Introduces Catholic Girls’ League

St. Eugene Catholic Elementary School has introduced a new club focused on strengthening connections between the school and parish while promoting faith formation, leadership, and community service.
“Angela Rzazewski, president of the St. Eugene Catholic Women’s League, approached me last year to start a Junior Catholic Women’s League said Principal Dann Crandall, who noted the group was named the Catholic Girls’ League.
Approximately 25 girls have joined the league, offering opportunities for students in grades 4 to 8 to grow in their faith, participate in acts of service within the school and parish community, and engage with social justice issues.
With the help of Kayla Cusano, special hire and Carmelite, meetings take place during lunch hour.
Recently, members visited St. Patrick’s De Mazenod Door Outreach where they helped prepare food for individuals in need, said Crandall.
The success of the initiative has gained attention across the city, with other leagues expressing interest in creating similar partnerships with their local schools.
Building on the momentum of the program, St. Eugene is in the works to establish a new group for boys. Tentatively called the Knights of St. Eugene or Knights of St. Michael, the chapter is being developed in collaboration with Father Upendran of St. Eugene Parish and Ryan Hunt, a Grade 5/6 Teacher, who is also a Fourth Degree Knight.
“We hope to replicate the success we have had with the girls’ group with our boys from grades 5 to 8. It is just getting started.”
