St. Michael Celebrates Snuggle Up and Read Day

St. Michael Catholic Elementary School celebrated National Family Literacy Day, also known as Snuggle Up and Read Together Day, on January 27, with a joyful day centered around the love of reading.
The celebration began with a 25-minute whole-school assembly in the gym. Teacher Librarian Joel Begin read the story “A Piece of Cake” alongside special guest Simoni Lawrence, Brand and Community Ambassador of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats Football. As the story was read, several staff members brought it to life by acting out the scenes.
Following the assembly, Lawrence visited the Grade 6 classes and FDK classes in the library. He read the book “The World Needs More Purple People,” a story that encourages kindness, curiosity, and being a little silly. The book shared an important message: purple people come in every colour, size, and shape, and we are most “purple” when we are giving to others.
To make the day even more special, Simoni handed out his cards and autographed them for all the students.
“The students were thrilled to have him be part of our snuggle up and read day,” said Designated Early Childhood Educator Sandra Tirabassi.
It was a wonderful celebration of literacy, community, and the joy of reading together.
