Monday, September 22, 2025, marks the start of Truth and Reconciliation Week (September 22 to 26), which honours the children who never returned home, as well as the survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities. It precedes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Tuesday, September 30, 2025
In continuation of this year's Jubilee theme, "Pilgrims of Hope" we are reminded of the responsibilities we carry to walk forward in good relations with Indigenous Peoples.
To support Truth and Reconciliation Week, Orange Shirt Day, and beyond, the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board is focused on:
• building positive connections and relationships while strengthening collaborations with Indigenous communities, parents and families;
• recognizing the tragic legacy of residential schools, the missing children, the families left behind and the survivors of these institutions; and
• exploring the rich and diverse cultures, voices, experiences and histories of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
In order to support Staff and Students in their learning on the path to Truth and Reconciliation, all staff are invited to visit the Indigenous Education Learning Community LMS for relationships and resources.
As Scripture tells us, “If we love one another, God lives in us” (1 John 4:12)
