September 30 marks both the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, a day to honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities, and to deepen our understanding of the ongoing impact of the residential school system. It is also a time to reflect, learn and reaffirm that Every Child Matters.

At the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board, we remain committed to journeying with our Indigenous brothers and sisters in a spirit of truth and reconciliation through active listening, prayer and right action.

Throughout this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and beyond, the HWCDSB continues to focus on building positive relationships and strengthening collaboration with Indigenous communities, parents and families; recognizing the tragic legacy of residential schools, the children who never returned home, Survivors and their families; and creating opportunities for students and staff to learn from Indigenous voices, histories, cultures and perspectives.

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and every day: every child matters, each belongs.
