On September 16, 2026, senior law students from St. Thomas More and St. Mary Catholic Secondary Schools gathered with members of Hamilton’s legal community for the 69th Annual Red Mass of the St. Thomas More Lawyers’ Guild of the Diocese of Hamilton.

Held at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, the Mass was celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop Wayne Lobsinger and offered an opportunity to seek God’s guidance and blessing for those who work within the legal profession.

Students were also invited to take part in the liturgy, including St. Mary students Kayla Callaghan and Alex Tschirhart, along with St. Thomas More students Charlie Macaluso and Matthew Macaluso, who presented the gifts during the celebration. They were accompanied by their teachers, Andrea Leone of St. Thomas More and Mary McAuley of St. Mary.

Following Mass, students attended a breakfast reception alongside members of the legal community and heard from keynote speaker Dr. Peter Meehan, President and Vice-Chancellor of St. Jerome’s University in Waterloo. In his address, Dr. Meehan emphasized the importance of recognizing the humanity of those who come into contact with the legal system, reminding students that behind every case and legal issue are real people whose lives are affected by the law.

“The experience provided students with a unique opportunity to connect their classroom study of law with the values of faith, compassion and service,” said Teacher Mary McAuley.

“The annual Red Mass continues to bring together students and members of the legal community while encouraging future generations to consider not only how the law is applied, but also the people it serves.”

“A special thank you is extended to the St. Thomas More Lawyers’ Guild of the Diocese of Hamilton for welcoming students and providing them with this meaningful opportunity.”
