Rejoicing in Hope, in Word and Deed

On September 19, 2024, the Annual Diocesan Celebration of Catholic Education was hosted by the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board. Catholic school boards from across the Diocese of Hamilton joined together at St. Pius X Parish in Brantford to celebrate the gift of publicly funded Catholic education. Our Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board was represented by Chairperson Pat Daly, Director of Education David Hansen, senior administration, principals, vice-principals, and our Secondary Student Council Presidents and Trustees.

Rooted in the upcoming Year of Jubilee 2025 theme, “Pilgrims of Hope,” the celebration focused on rejoicing in hope in word and deed. The evening began with a presentation from Dr. Josephine Lombardi, who reminded us that hope is a theological virtue that challenges us to wait in joy, patience, and perseverance. Following the presentation was the Celebration of the Eucharist, led by His Excellency the Most Reverend D. Douglas Crosby, O.M.I., Bishop of the Diocese of Hamilton. The homily, drawing from the readings, emphasized that we are unconditionally loved by a good and gracious God and that we are the hope for the future of Catholic education. To conclude the evening, each school board received a commemorative gift that was blessed by His Excellency the Most Reverend D. Douglas Crosby.
