As of June 2025, Ontario is experiencing a large measles outbreak, with over 2,000 reported cases since last October. Measles is a serious, highly contagious disease that can lead to severe illness—especially in infants and young children.
Vaccination is the most effective way to protect your family. Two doses of a measles-containing vaccine are nearly 100% effective and are available for free through your health care provider, walk-in clinics, or Hamilton Public Health clinics.
As summer travel approaches, now is a critical time to:
- Ensure your child’s vaccines are up to date
- Report any updated vaccines to Hamilton Public Health
- Consult your provider if accelerated schedules are needed for travel
- Keeping vaccination records current also helps prevent disruption to in-person learning in case of future outbreaks.
