Will you be a Grade 11 or 12+ student next year who’s ready to build your future? The Enhanced Construction Program is your chance to explore the carpentry trade.
Funded in part by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario, this new collaborative partnership between the United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC) Local 18 and the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board introduces senior secondary school students to the carpentry trade while allowing them to earn credits toward their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. It is specifically designed to provide participants with industry-recognized training, practical experience and direct pathways into careers in the skilled trades.
Each semester, the program will accept 20 students. Participants will attend classes at the UBC Local 18 Training Centre (1342 Stone Church Road East) and will earn the following secondary school credits:
- One Mathematics credit
- One English credit
- Two Construction Technology credits
Upon successful completion of the in-class component, students will complete a co-op placement. A paid co-op placement from a UBC employer is possible.
Participants in the Enhanced Construction Program will receive the following:
- Completion of four secondary school credits
- Co-op placement
- Personal Protective Equipment and tools valued at approximately $900
- Seven industry-standard construction certifications
- Apprenticeship hours credited toward a trade qualification
- Placement opportunities in the General Carpentry (403A) and Drywall, Acoustical and Lathing Systems (451A) trades
