The Student and Family Support Office helps HWCDSB students, parents and guardians navigate questions or concerns related to their child’s education, particularly when an issue is complex, unresolved, or requires support beyond the school level.

Start with Your Child’s School concernprocess

For most questions or concerns, the quickest and most effective place to start is your child’s school. Families are encouraged to first speak with their child’s teacher or appropriate staff member, followed by the school principal.

If a concern cannot be resolved at the school level, the Student and Family Support Office can help.

How We Can Help

The Student and Family Support Office can assist when:

  • A concern remains unresolved after speaking with school staff.
  • You are unsure who to contact about a complex or sensitive matter.
  • Support is required from a superintendent or central Board department.
  • You need help finding the appropriate process or resource.

Some concerns are managed through specific Board reporting or confidential processes. Our team can help direct you to the appropriate channel.

 

To help us respond to your inquiry, please provide:

  • your name and contact information
  • your child’s name and school
  • a description of your question or concern
  • any steps you have already taken to try to resolve the issue

What to Expect

After submitting an inquiry, you can expect:

  • Acknowledgement within two business days.
  • We aim to provide an answer within five business days.
  • A status update and estimated response date if more time is required.

These service expectations are established by the Ontario Ministry of Education through Policy/Program Memorandum 170 (PPM 170).

Information shared with the Student and Family Support Office is handled confidentially and accessed only by authorized staff as required to respond to your inquiry, in accordance with applicable education and privacy legislation.
