Ministry Criteria

Ministry Criteria

A learning disorder characterized by specific behaviour problems over such a period of time, and to such a marked degree, and of such a nature, as to adversely affect educational performance, and that may be accompanied by one or more of the following:

a) an inability to build or to maintain inter-personal relationships;

b) excessive fears or anxieties;

c) a tendency to compulsive reaction; or

d) an inability to learn that cannot be traced to intellectual, sensory or other health factors, or any combination thereof.

Board Criteria

The student's behaviour meets the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association - Fourth Edition (DSM-IV) criteria for an:

- Adjustment Disorder
- Anxiety Disorder
- Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
      - Hyperactive-Impulsive Type
      - Combined Type
- Conduct Disorder
- Dissociative Disorder
- Eating Disorder
- Mood Disorder
- Oppositional-Defiant Disorder
- Personality Disorder
- Schizophrenia or other Psychotic Disorder
- Substance Dependence

AND

The student displays:

- consistently poor educational performance that is primarily due to significant and persistent behaviour problems in more than one setting within the school for a minimum of six months

Requirements

A written report from a member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, the College of Psychologists (or an individual directly supervised by a member) or the College of Social Workers which clearly delineates the significant and persistent behaviour problems of the student or provides a diagnosis of the behaviour problem.
