At a Night of Champions gala dinner on October 24th, St. Jean de Brébeuf Catholic Secondary School student Matthew Towler was recognized by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats with a $2,000 “Made in the Hammer” scholarship.
Hosted at Tim Hortons Field, the event honoured student-athletes in the city who have made exceptional contributions to their school community through commitment, leadership, community service and sportsmanship.
A captain on the school’s football team for five seasons, coach Phil Iannone described Towler as a leader both on and off the field.
“He has helped mentor numerous student-athletes in both the game of football and in academics. As an honour roll student, Matthew has exhibited a great commitment to his academics, and through his charity and fundraising work, has shown a great commitment to our school community.”
In the off season, Towler has helped organize training programs and volunteers his time at school masses/liturgies and feeder school events.
“He has also helped in the construction of our new football locker room.”
“SJB football is incredibly proud of Matthew and his accomplishments.”
