HSR Service Updates

Update: November 16th, 2023

Dear HWCDSB families and staff,

As a result of a tentative collective agreement reached between the City of Hamilton and the Amalgamated Transit Union a normal schedule of Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) service will resume tomorrow, November 17, 2023. We will continue to monitor this matter and advise of any updates.

We appreciate the understanding of students, families and staff during this situation.

Notice of Hamilton Street Railway Service Disruption

Update: November 6th, 2023

Dear HWCDSB families and staff,

As you may be aware yesterday the Amalgamated Transit Union announced their intention to withdraw (strike) HSR service effective Thursday, November 9, 2023. Consequently, regular HSR service and myRide on-demand services will not be available throughout the City of Hamilton.

Please note that while this job action affects conventional transit services, accessible transportation services provided by DARTS will not be impacted.

As shared earlier, we recognize the potential for such circumstances during the collective bargaining process. We understand that any disruption in service can impact daily routines, especially for students, staff, and our broader school community.

Considering the potential transit challenges in our area, we kindly urge everyone to plan accordingly, exploring alternative commuting options and staying updated on the situation.

We will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.

Potential Transit Disruptions – Hamilton Street Railway Service – Potential Labour Action

Dear HWCDSB families and staff,

We wanted to inform you of a potential disruption to the Hamilton Street Railway Service. As you may be aware, as part of the collective bargaining process the members of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) will be voting on the City of Hamilton’s final offer on Sunday, November 5, 2023. Subject to the outcome of the vote, there exists the possibility of a disruption to public transit (HSR) services. We understand that any disruption in service has the potential to impact routines and preparedness will be essential for affected students, staff and school communities. We encourage families to consider alternative transportation arrangements in the event of a disruption. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide updates as we become aware of them.
